spider thread veins skin cosmetics london

thread vein leg
Thread vein (also known as spider veins) are visible veins close to the surface of the skin.
Laser thead vein removal is a non-invasive treatment that eliminates the appearance of unsightly thread veins, or spider veins as they are sometimes called, that are commonly found on the face, ankles, calves and thighs.
Thread veins are thin and red irregular lines just below the skins surface and are commonly found on the face and legs but can appear anywhere on the body. Thread veins tend to be caused by the ageing process, weight gain, smoking and alcohol consumption, genetics, hormonal changes e.g. pregnancy, standing for prolonged amounts of time and too much exposure to the sun, wind or extreme temperatures.
Vein treatments use advanced laser technology to target and destroy the blood vessels responsible for veins, causing them to visibly disappear. Since the laser targets the blood vessels within the vein, there is minimal or no damage to the outer layer of skin. The laser beam is directed at the unwanted thread vein, heating it up causing it to then collapse and break down on itself. This process is called photothermolysis.

At Skin Cosmetics London, we use a state-of-the-art laser to administer this treatment.
This laser system combines two wavelengths to provide a variety of laser treatments, effectively, safely and efficiently to the patient.
The key benefits of this treatment are:
Fastness of treatment
The laser has spot sizes of up to 24mm, allowing large areas to be treated as quickly as possible, with no anaesthetic required.
Efficacy of treatment
A wavelength of 1064nm is used to treat leg veins in a short number of sessions. This is usually between 1 & 4 sessions depending on the severity of the vein and other factors.
Safety of treatment
Our hardware is FDA approved and has been used in many of the world’s most reputable aesthetic clinics, and is clinically proven to in many clinical publications to be both effective and safe.

A beam of laser is used to target the blood vessels in the area of concern. The beam is directed at the threed vein and heats it up the vein, thus causing it to collapse and break down and ‘implode’, so to speak. This process is called photothermolysis and destroys the thread vein.

It also helps to improve the tone and all the features of your face such as your eyes, cheeks, mouth, chin and skin also making it a viable alternative to Botox, with the benefit of being able to maintain facial expression. Excellent for post surgical face lift to maintain the lift and treat blood stasis, scarring, and numbness.

HIFU can also be used to tighten and tone other parts of the body.

Whilst generally speaking the treatment is not painful as such, patients describe a range of sensations from tingling to the snap of a rubber band during the treatment.

Treatments can take anywhere from 5-30 minutes depending on the size of the area being treated.

A series of treatments may be needed to fully clear blood vessels and reduce the appearance of the veins completely. Typically, one to four sessions are needed for desired results.

Many patients experience immediate improvement in the appearance of their veins following the treatment followed by continued improvement over the next week or so.

Generally speaking, veins removed tend to not reoccur once treatment is completed. However, this does not stop new thread veins appearing in other parts of the body. It also depends on the reason why you have the thread veins in the first place.

Lifestyle advice must also be followed if thread veins are caused by lifestyle factors such as standing for prolonged amounts of time, as this can cause new thread veins appearing.

Laser treatment only targets the unwanted thread veins, by using a specific wavelength carried out by a qualified professional. As a result, there is no damage to the skin itself.

This being said, you may experience some swelling. redness & bruising which should reduce and diminish within a few days.

The thread veins which have been treated may appear darker in colour and be more visible just after treatment, however this will cease once the vein breaks down and is a normal part of the process.

Candidates for treatment are wide ranging, however those who are lighter in skin tone will have a more effective treatment as the blood vessels are more visible. Treatment is more difficult for those with darker skin and/or suntan/redness.

  • Clients are advised to avoid direct sunlight and  tanning for 30 days prior and after treatment.
  • It is advised to not smoke for at least 5 hours prior to treatment.
  • It is advised to use spf30.

It is advised to have treatments 4-8 weeks apart. This is discussed with you after each treatment and in any subsequent consultation.
